Discovering Hidden Treasures

I love books, and I feel so blessed that my daughter loves reading too. We frequently visit local libraries. I also enjoy digging through Salvation Army and other thrift stores for hidden, forgotten treasures. I especially like finding books that have been overlooked or stories I’ve never heard of so that we can discover them for the first time together. Some books I find are simply too good not to share, and I love showcasing other artists’ work that deserves to be seen. Check in from time to time for kids’ book reviews that might become a new favorite for your family or unlock a core memory from your own childhood. If you see something you like, I often recommend checking eBay, or an local book thrift shop to track down vintage copies I post about.

I discovered this cute puppy book at Salvation Army — I picked this up, set it back down, but the title and cover image pulled at my heartstrings. I felt I had to “adopt” her and bring her home. I’m so glad I did!

Nobody’s Puppy, written by Patricia Lynn (1953), with illustrations by Florence Sarah Winship, is a sweet little story with charming pictures. The children find a puppy and try to find her a new home; they name her Trinket, which is absolutely adorable. The story gently teaches kindness and caring toward animals, and my daughter enjoys reading it again and again.

Does anyone out there remember this wonderful book?
